The Old Italian School of singing, generally regarded as the source of Bel Canto (which means beautiful singing), studied the sensations of natural singers and the physiology of the throat, head and thorax as it relates to muscles throughout the body in order to understand the relationship between actions and the sensations, which they engender. The result was the development of singers whose technique followed the laws of nature, a coordination, which appeared, because it was, perfectly natural. This understanding is a goal worth setting and what I teach.

Natural vocal and theatrical talent and instinct are, needless to say, prerequisites for a singing career, but in no way do they guarantee a career of any longevity. Absolutely professional know-how in all facets of a singers’ artistic activities and the ability to work intelligently and independently enable the singer to sing and continue to develop and change over a period of many, many decades. As the product of many excellent teachers, coaches, stage directors and conductors and as a still very active veteran of more than four decades of international opera and concert singing and more than three decades of teaching privately and in master classes, I know that there can be no single method or approach to truly effective and helpful voice instruction. Thus I have learned to respectfully and creatively “meet my students where they are at the moment” and to appreciate and nurture whatever positive abilities and qualities they already have, whether these be the result of purely natural talent or of former instruction. Needless to say, there are lots of basics which every singer must master in order to sing healthily, happily and beautifully, but the approach will be individual. That can be strenuous, but it is in the end a joyful process and one which enables the students to think for themselves and work independently. Lessons include vocal technique, building up a suitable repertoire, study and memorizing techniques, preparation for auditions and performances and coaching. I (as a veteran of 34 years of operas and concerts in Europe) also teach in German.

| Education: | Yale University, MA; NYU, BA; Professional vocal and piano training in NYC and NJ |
Healthy vocal production and an emotional connection to the music you sing are the cornerstones of a great performance. I teach students how to use their voice in a healthy, confident, focused way, how to approach melody and lyrics, and how to breakdown a song into its parts so it is accessible and manageable. While I encourage my students to bring in songs they want to sing, I have a collection of thousands of Jazz, Pop, Rock, Folk, and Musical Theatre songs from which they can select new material. I work with my students on song selection and help them choose pieces that are perfect for them vocally and artistically. I strive to make singing a fun, exploratory process, and I will never make a student sing anything he or she does not like. A student who learns solid vocal technique and who connects deeply with the music he or she sings, will be able to approach any style of music with comfort, ease, and grace.
I teach in New York City and in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I also teach music theory and piano and greatly enjoy teaching piano to singers who are interested in expanding their musical skills.
Please feel free to contact me at my email address! I look forward to hearing from you!

I offer a supportive personal approach to the art of singing. My vocal technique stems from the Italian Bel Canto style. I believe in building a voice from the bottom up. Learn to incorporate a mental awareness and physicality needed in developing diaphragmatic breath support skills. Learn how to sing freely and beautifully with improved vocal power and resonance, expand your range and dynamics, strengthen and integrate the vocal registers (chest, mixed, head), acquire vocal ease through flexibility and confidence while you sing. Enhance your musicality through personalized coaching on song repertoire: musical interpretation, characterization, language, diction, melody and translations.
The many years of singing professionally in opera and Broadway have given me a clear understanding of the vocal demands and pitfalls associated with a professional career. I provide my students with a clear understanding of vocal health and production, integrating the major principles of the mind and body so that the two work together in total cooperation and release.

| Expertise/Specialty: | I give my students a solid technical foundation and they soon realize that their vocal potential is greater then they thought, and they are able to sing music that they could not sing before. My students are able to see results within the first three lessons. |
| Musical Styles Taught: | Classical, Musical Theatre, Pop, Rock, Other |
| Education: | A Magna Cum Laude graduate , I recieved a Bachelor of Music (voice major/opera minor) and a Master of Music dergees from The University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Harbor, Michigan. I continued my voice studies: in the Swedish/ Italian School of Singing, repertoire coaching, foreign language and diction study, acting and dance training in the United States and in Europe. |
I am a voice teacher and performer living in Manhattan. As an experienced teacher, I have always suggested to my students, that through the comprehensive private vocal training with me, they will discover their own voice type and be able to use their voices to express the style of music that they love and that they feel vocally comfortable doing it. My technique is based on the Swedish/ Italian School of Singing. A very important part of the lesson time is also given to thorough musical preperation for auditions and performances, dramatic interpretation of the music, diction and language skills, and the understanding and the use of the unification of the voice, mind, and body. I have successfully taught injured voices, and I have taught all voice types, beginners to professionals from age 12 on. I believe that if a student has one particular problem that is keeping the voice from functioning in a healthy and efficient manner such as, bad breathe management in singing or how to sing dramatically with out pushing, this problem should be addressed in the lesson immediately. My students never leave my studio vocally strained, vocally tired, stressed or physcologically defeated and I guarantee that there will be a significant improvement in a student's understanding of singing immediately.
My students have performed in the following Concert Halls: Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Concert Halls (Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall), Merkin Hall, Circle in The Square Theater School, etc....... Musicals: Theaters des Westens, Berlin/Cabaret, Williams Center in Lynhurst, NJ/ Broadway Bound Organization for the exceptionally talented young performing artist, Broadway Theaters and National Tours......Opera Houses: Berlin, Saarbrucken, Bielefeld, Kiel, Conneticut Opera, Boston Opera, Washington Opera, Metropolitan Opera Studio, New Opera Festival of Rome in association with Festival d'Roma......Festivals , Orchestras, Competitions, and Television: Michael Jackson Concert on CBS (Nov, 2001), Variety-The Children's Charity Telethon on Pax TV. My studio is located near Lincoln Center and is convenient to all means of transportation.
Alice Smith, a student of mine since 2001, was nominated for a Grammy Award this season: her current CD on the SONY-EPIC label is "For Lovers, Dreamers & Me".

| Expertise/Specialty: | Vocal Technique, Acting-Aria/Role interpretation - I teach all levels, beginner to advanced |
| Musical Styles Taught: | Classical, Musical Theatre |
| Education: | B.M. Voice Stetson University, M.M. Voice Manhattan School of Music |
I teach a solid, basic technique and base the lesson on the individual need of my student. I believe in honest criticism done in a positive way to enable the student to move forward and build confidence. In addition to teaching vocal technique I work with my students (and others' students) on acting - aria/role interpretation. I have been singing for 30+ years and studied with some wonderful teachers (Ellen Faull, Thomas LoMonaco, Catherine Malfitano) and sung under many well known conductors. I have sung at New York City Opera for 25+ years so I have heard exquisite singing (and flawed singing) on stage thus my knowledge base is extensive. I love teaching and am always pleased to see my students' progress!

My vast experience of over 35 years as an opera singer, singing leading roles as a soprano, with some of the world's most renown singers such as; Pavarotti, Di Stefano,Sordello, Jerome Hines,Samuel Remy and others in Europe and USA, has enabled me to teach and guide young aspiring singers to reach stardom. My approach during the teaching process is, very individual. Each student has different issues needed to be addressed that require a different approach than other students. In fact, it works. The technique which I acquired during my career I now pass on to my students. Some of my students perform in opera houses in America and Europe. In addition to teaching, I am also the Music director of the, "Lyric Opera Of New Jersey" and have connections in the music world and artist's agents, that benefit my students. I had a studio in NYC. in the Lincoln Center area for 25 years, and a year ago I closed it and open my studio in Englewood NJ which is just minutes away from the city. My students who come from all over prefer to come to Jersey for the more relaxing enviroment.
